Cooperation on sharing “future vision” agreed with education office

Jeju National University and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education met on Tuesday (Sept. 28) to sign an agreement on exchanges with an inclusive and future-oriented vision.
Under the agreement, the two parties will work to close the educational gap by fostering talented local intellectuals. The agreement also relates to the project for linking the Jeju-based high schools and Jeju National University in preparation for the nation’s adoption of the high school GPA system. For the growth of students from multicultural families, the university and the education authority will provide customized educational support.
Efforts will also be made for cooperation in the academic areas, including participating in each other’s academic events and offering more field training and volunteering opportunities for students in the education departments.
Overall, the two decided to pursue a “win-win” strategy by utilizing the academic and human resources held by the only national university in the Jeju region, while laying the legal groundwork for the investment by the local educational authority.
Song Seok-eon, the president of the university, said in the signing ceremony that the school faculty and board members will employ all possible measures to provide full support for the agreed cooperation to be realized.
Lee Seok-moon, the Jeju Superintendent of Education, laid stress on the democratic solidarity and cooperation as a driving force of preparing for the era of transition in advance, while wisely resolving imminent challenges such as the 4th industrial revolution and the post-COVID-19 issues. The bilateral agreement will give momentum to a sustainable coexistence of Jeju’s educational environment and universities, he expected.
In 2015, the university and the Jeju education office signed another agreement on the activation of the test-free semester system.
Currently, seven more agreements have been signed between the education office and the institutes affiliated with Jeju National University.
If needed, the school and the authority will discuss further on additional issues for cooperation and convene working level meetings to adjust detailed matters.
