On Nov. 21, Jeju Residents Youth Association in Kansai, Japan (hereafter, the Association) (Chairperson Lee Sang-yu) visited JNU to donate JPY 798,000(about KRW 7.38 million) and KRW 500,000 to the book fund.
The Association has donated more than 6,600 books and funds of JPY 31.98 million to JNU library 49 times from 1971 to 2023, excluding the COVID-19 period.
JNU delivered a plaque of appreciation to Chairperson Lee in order to thank the association for its continued interest and help for more than 50 years.
Lee said, "The beginning of this project was a form of delivering books from Japan because Jeju residents didn’t have enough books to read. Recently, things have changed a lot, so the form of book donation has changed into donation for book fund. This project is not just the donation for book fund, but a valuable event because Jeju residents in Kansai, Japan feel their connection to Jeju. The book fund donation, which has been sustained by seniors, is a rewarding event. We will try to continue the tradition for our junior in Kansai to donate book funds"
The members of the Association visited JNU central library and toured the section of Kansai Youth Association Donation Book. Then, they had a time to interact with JNU students at the Jeju People in Japan Center at JNU.
