JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) and Rideflux Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Joong-hee) signed a business agreement at JNU on December 5 for professional manpower training related to future mobility autonomous vehicles and exchange industry-academia cooperation.
Through the agreement, the two organizations agreed to cooperate in order to foster human resources through △ curriculum development and operation, △ employment linkage efforts through industry field trips and field training, △ use of human resources through special lectures on industry staff, support for dedicated professors △ joint use of equipment and facilities necessary for education and technology development, and △ support for self-driving services on campus and commercialization.
RideFlux is a deep-tech startup developing fully autonomous driving software. In May 2020, they introduced the first on-demand autonomous driving service in Korea that can be used by anyone without special knowledge. Currently, the company operates various types of fully open services based on Jeju such as the longest 80km round-trip paid autonomous driving service between Jeju Airport and Jungmun Tourist Complex and a circular shuttle service for coastal roads near Jeju Airport. It has been expanding its test beds to major cities across the country, including Seoul and Sejong.
An official from the Department of Electronic Engineering at JNU said, "JNU expects this agreement to serve as a driving force for fostering talents in the field of future mobility autonomous vehicles and promoting the Jeju regional innovation platform Green Energy & Future Mobility Project of RIS (Local Government-University cooperation-based Regional Innovation System)."
