JNU Prof. Jeon You-jin, Major of Aquatic Life Medicine at College of Ocean Sciences, was selected as the winner of ‘The 2023 Knowledge Sharing Grand Prize’ of the Minister of Science and ICT of Merit in the field of agriculture, forestry and fisheries research.

The "Knowledge Sharing Grand Prize" is awarded to excellent researchers who have contributed to improving research ability at the national level and have written papers that are academically recognized through information sharing on research results for the past five years (2018-2022).

Prof. Jeon was selected as one of the world's top 1% scientists by conducting research on improving the value of marine fisheries resources. He also recognized for his contributions to the development of fisheries life, including regular membership activities at ‘The Korean Academy of Science and Technology’.

Jeon contributed a lot to the identification and industrialization of seaweed-derived physiologically active substances by revealing the activity of various polyphenol components and seaweed glycomics, a polyphenol derived from seaweed, as a structural correlation to increase the industrial value of unused seaweed resources.

In addition, he has been contributing to resource recycling and value enhancement through various high-value-added materials by utilizing by-products derived from marine and fisheries animals.

Prof. Jeon is currently the head of the 4th stage BK21 Fisheries Life Industry Education Research Group at JNU, which is responsible for fostering professional research personnel in the field of marine fisheries. And as the head of the Health Functional Fisheries Food Research Center, he is also conducting research with related companies in order to promote the health of marine fishery foods and develop health functional food ingredients.
