On Dec. 27, JNU announced that two JNU laboratories, the Biopharmaceutical Research Laboratory (Professor Bae Ji-yeong) and the Biomaterial Exploration and Analysis Office (Professor Lee Dong-sun) of the Biomaterial Development Support Center, were finally selected and certified in the "2023 Safety Management Outstanding Laboratory" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

In 2020, JNU was certified as an excellent safety management laboratory in chemistry and biotechnology, and in three years, it was again certified as an excellent safety management laboratory recognized by the government in pharmaceutical and biomaterial laboratories.

‘The 'Excellent Safety Management Laboratory Certification System' is a government granting certification to laboratories with excellent safety management levels and activities in order to strengthen the autonomous safety management capabilities of science and technology laboratories installed at universities and research institutes and to discover and spread safety management standard models.

In order to obtain this certification, the agency must score at least 80% each in three areas: △ safety environment system (30 points), △ activity level (50 points), and △ safety management official safety awareness (20 points).

JNU has supported the expansion of safety equipment and environmental improvement at research sites through the project to create a safety environment foundation for laboratories. In addition, JNU efforts have been made to create a safe research environment for universities by strengthening safety education in order to strengthen researchers' safety management capabilities and foster safety awareness.

JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "JNU will make efforts to build a safe research environment and secure the university's research competitiveness so that JNU can receive certification of excellent laboratories for safety management in various science and technology fields every year."
