JNU held the 'JNU IB (Global Education) Colloquium' under the theme of 'Exploring IBEC Operation and Development Direction for Globalization of Jeju Education' in the conference room in JNU College of Education on Jan. 25.
JNU has been cooperating with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Kwang-soo) to globalize education in Jeju, which is based on the College of Education, the Graduate School of Education (Dean Yeum Mi-Gyeung), and the Master's Joint Curriculum Support Center (Head Kwon Sang-cheol) of the Global Teachers' Training Center (GTU).
At the colloquium, Keith Yi, a visiting professor at Inha University, presented the theme of "Preparation of universities for IBEC Operation." Lim Young-gu, principal of Pyoseon High School, Kang Mi-hee, a scholar at the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education, and Kim Young, a curriculum coordinator at Pyoseon High School, participated as debaters.
IBEC stands for International Baccalaureate Educators Certificate, meaning IB (International Baccalaureate) Educators Certificate. It is a qualification that certifies the ability to understand the IB education system, learning method, and educational philosophy and apply it in the educational field. IBEC provides professional education and training to teachers educated in IB schools around the world and aims to improve the knowledge and skills necessary to apply the IB education system.
Kwon Sang-cheol, head of the GTU's Joint Curriculum Support Center, said, "This colloquium is a place to present the direction for the globalization of education in Jeju Island and share various opinions for it.", stressing, "This event is expected to serve as an opportunity for JNU to take the lead in presenting the direction of education not only for IB schools but also for general schools in Jeju."
