Park Jung-min (Academic Adviser: Prof. Oh Wook), a master's degree student in the Department of Horticulture at JNU, won the Best Poster Presentation Award at the ‘2023 Fall Conference of the Human Botanical Environment Society’ held at Dankook University's Cheonan campus.

The theme of the presentation is 'Changes in Indoor Growth and Variegation by Shading Rate for Light Acclimatization in Potted Coleus. If the Colleus, a brought-in (pattern) plant, is brought directly indoors with a low luminous intensity from the greenhouse, the pattern disappears or the value of the physiognomy, such as laughing, decreases. However, if the plant adapts (light purification) for a certain period of time at medium luminous intensity, it can maintain its physiognomy value indoors. In this study, she found and suggested the appropriate luminous intensity. While there has been a trend of growing plants indoors such as planters, companion plants, and air purifying plants, the results of this study were evaluated as providing an opportunity to enjoy various patterned plants indoors.

An Jeong-hyun, a student in the same laboratory (Plant Resoures & Environment major 2, Department of Biology & Industry2) also received the Excellence Poster Presentation Award. The topic is ‘Quality Grade Analysis of Christmas Kalanchoe and English Ivy to Construct Image Data for Artificial Intelligence Learning’. In order to digitize and secure the reliability of the flower industry, the results of this study will be used as basic data for establishing quality standards for foliage plants and building image data for AI learning in a situation where objective quality evaluation standards and grade classification systems of major flowers are needed through the development of artificial intelligence (AI) application services.
