JNU College of Economics & Commerce (President Kim Jung-hoon) named No. 2 Lecture Room 0262 in the College of Economics & Commerce as "Kim Chang-hee BMI Seminar Room" in order to commemorate his contribution to the development of Korean business, his love for Jeju, his affection for JNU alma mater and his intention to foster younger students. Signboard hanging ceremony and opening ceremony was held on Feb. 28.
“The basis of human relationships is ‘trust.’ Prepare for the future with a pioneering and challenging spirit.” These are the words from CEO Kim Chang-hee to his juniors, which is what he learned while working in Hyundai Motor Group. During the period when he reported the business to the late Chung Ju-young, the founder of the Hyundai group, and shared his vision was the so-called "Go for It" spirit. ‘Don't think you can't do it before you try it.’ has served as a foundation for Kim to grow into a global CEO.
Kim’s attitude of mind has led to his love of JNU alma mater, and he has donated a total of KRW 500 million to JNU by KRW 100 million every year since 2019. In addition, he has shown his love for JNU by working as a chair professor at JNU and a member of JNU Hallimwon Institute. At the opening ceremony, CEO Kim delivered scholarships a total of KRW 10.5 million won to seven students, including Cho Ki-hwan, a business administration student at College of Economics & Commerce.
He started his undergrad in '72’ at JNU. After joining Hyundai Motor Company in 1982, he was promoted to an executive in 10 years. In 2011, he was appointed as CE0 of Hyundai Engineering & Construction and was called the "Myth of the Salaried Employee." As the CEO of BMI Korea, Kim has grown the company, which had sales of KRW 20 billion when he took office in 2012, into a mid-sized company worth KRW 240 billion, emphasizing technological innovation and social responsibility.
He has contributed to the development of Jeju by serving as the president of the Association of Seoul Jeju Residents, the Association of Overseas Jeju Businessperson, the Association of Overseas Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and the Seoul Jeju Provincial Residents Scholarship Association. He also served as the president of the Jeju Archery Association for 28 years, contributing to the development of archery in Jeju.
