JNU has proactively responded to the education policies set forth by Korean Ministry of Education, adopting initiatives such as breaking down barriers between majors and broadening recruitment. In line with this, "Jeju Olle Trail and Self-reflection" curriculum has been established and implemented to support the adaptation of JNU students to university life.

The course will have been operated during JNU spring 2024 semester while providing JNU students with an opportunity to plan their careers and academic pursuits with mentors on the Jeju Olle Trail. Organized by JNU Future Education Division and JNU Center for Teaching and Learning Support, this course is newly introduced this year. Starting with an orientation on March 22, a total of 4 sessions has been conducted, which focus on "Trekking and Interviews" and "Presentations on University Life and Career Planning on the Jeju Olle Trail."

This program is conducted by the 'JNU Mentorship Team', comprising JNU's president, key officials, and other internal and external personnel. Throughout the spring semester, they counsel current students who are considering career planning and major selection while completing the Jeju Olle Trail. Each session involves discussions on diverse topics such as academics, psychology, career paths, and adapting to university life. The educational goal is to assist students in formulating their career and university life plans by integrating insights gained from these discussions.

The first journey along the Jeju Olle Trail began on the morning of March 29 at Soesokkak in Seogwipo City (Hahyo-dong). Thirty JNU students, along with approximately twenty mentors from both inside and outside the university, including NH Nonghyup Bank employees and members of JNU Hanlimwon Committee, shared their senior experiences, provided guidance, and discussed student concerns while completing the 6-course Olle Trail together.

Seo Myeongsuk, the chairperson of the Jeju Olle Foundation, expressed her hope saying, “The youth leading Jeju's future would find respite from study fatigue while walking the Jeju Olle Trail, and would have the chance to immerse themselves in Jeju’s vibrant culture, geology, and history while they plan for their futures.” JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "While adults today serve as mentors, I envision that students who take the course will become mentors in the future,“ adding,”They will be expected to hold the hands of their friends who are in need of comfort, share their burdens, lend an ear to their concerns while traversing the Olle Trail, and radiate positive energy."
