On March 20, Chairperson Kim Myung-shin of the Deogsan Cultural Foundation donated KRW 300 million to the 'Deoksan Innovation Award' fund. Chairperson Kim was joined by JNU President Kim Eel-hwan, JNU Vice President Kang Hee-kyung, Director of Academic Affairs Jung Seung-dal, and Chairperson Kang Nam-hoon of the Civil Servants' Workplace Association at the ceremony.

Kim visited JNU by chance during a visit to his hometown Jeju in the early 1990s. This initial encounter led to the establishment of a relationship to JNU in 1992. His contributions to JNU’s advancement have been significant. Notably, during the ‘JNU Development Support Night' in 1995, he generously donated approximately KRW 10 billion worth of land in Deoksan Farm (6,435 pyeong, 21.272727 m2) alongside his wife, Mrs. Jung Ok-sun. Furthermore, he has made numerous contributions totaling KRW 136 million besides the land donation.

During the event, Kim said, "Every time I think of JNU, I am reminded of the responsibility that JNU’s progress directly contributes to the advancement of my beloved hometown, Jeju. For JNU to progress further, it requires profound changes and innovations.” In addition, he added, "With this passion and aspiration, I want to discover and encourage faculty and staff who contribute innovatively to the university development through education, research, volunteerism, and operational improvements, both domestically and internationally."
