GTU dual master’s degree project selected for support

Jeju National University was notified by the National Research Foundation of Korea that JNU’s Global Teachers University Common Master’s Degree Program was approved for support, it was announced earlier today (April 29, 2020).
This project aims at establishing a shared master’s degree program with universities in the United States through mutual exchange of the credit hours earned at the participating institutions.
Jeju National University was selected to participate in establishing the “global education” program in the Teachers College with the affiliate academic departments forming the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fusion subjects.
The Ministry of Education has been discussing the binational project with the State of Alabama and The University of Indiana.
For example, students admitted to the program may complete entire 5 semesters of study at JNU or splitting the courses with 5 semesters taken at JNU and 2 semesters in the United States, either of which enables each student to meet the requirements for master’s degrees at both participating institutions (dual degree program).
Significantly, one getting admission to the US participating university and upon completion of the program is eligible to earn the teaching certificate for a permanent job in the United States.
The JNU Teachers College Global Teachers University plans to open the program with newly recruited students in the second half of this year and for classes opening in March 2021.
Professor Kwon Sang Cheol, Director of the GTU project, said that the Jeju Provincial Education Board was particularly interested in the program for its aims of globalizing the Jeju’s educational environment.
