Jeju National University Common Resources and Sustainable Society Studies Center (Choi Hyun, Director) held a forum on “Jeju and Saewol-ho shipwreck” to discuss the civic movement issues in the ship’s memorial space “Re:born” earlier this week.
The forum featured discussions revolving around the implications of the shipwreck which occurred on the high sea on its way to Jeju Island five some years ago. 20 Jejuans survived the disaster who continue pondering what the fateful wreck meant in their lives.
The forum program featured Mr. Hwang Yong Woon, a Saewol-ho shipwreck movement activist, for discussion, questions and address issues related to the historical high sea incident in Korea.
Center Director Choi commented that the Saewol-ho disaster left unsettled social and ideological issues and the forum presented for the safe society to assure a sustainable society at the regional and national levels.
