JNU to train KMA weather specialists

학ㆍ연 협동연구 석ㆍ박사과정 개설 등 추진 Master’s and doctorate program established under Academic-research collaboration
Jeju National University (Song Seok-Eon, President) has signed the agreement with Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA, Kim Jong Suk, Director) for training weather specialists last Wednesday (May 13, 2020).
In the bilateral agreement, the participants collaborate in training the meteorological professionals through developing and administering both master’s and doctorate’s degree program.
In the program, the KMA National Meteorological Institute provides on-site practical training and research, whereas the JNU offers lectures in theoretical concepts in meteorology.
The agreement also covers student training, academic information exchange, joint seminars and conferences, and sharing the research facilities and equipment for the training and research program.
The National Meteorological Institute had relocated to Seogwipo in 2013, with special mission to conduct research in weather disaster prevention, environmental preservation and related meteorological issues.
The university is hopeful that the agreement leads for the JNU to become a cultivation center for weather and climate professionals in the country.
