The Jeju National University Department of Mechatronics Engineering’s Dr. K, Karthikeyan and his coworkers (Professor Kim Sang Jae, Supervisory) developed a self-charging super-capacity electric system and its associated electric charge distribution monitoring and analysis technology.

The research revolved around transforming the external mechanical energy (without the use of external electrical energy source) to electrical energy. The team has found a chemical spectroscopic method to visualize the energy transformation process. Through their technology developed, It has become possible to explain the self-electrical charging mechanism based on the piezoelectric electrochemical reactions for the first time.

The JNU research has been funded by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The work has just appeared (May 11, 2020) in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.
