On the 'Ollegil Trail Course 14', the third class of the ‘Jeju Ollegil & Self-reflection’ course was completed. This course offers JNU students an opportunity to plan their careers and academic pursuits through mentoring with JNU mentors.
At the Jeoji Art Information Village (Jeoji-ri, Hangkyeong-myeon, Jeju-si), the Ollegil class began by distributing garbage bags for plogging volunteer activities after introducing JNU Mentors on the morning of May 10.
A total of 70 individuals, including JNU students and mentors, took part in the event. Mentors from both within and outside JNU constituted the third JNU Mentor Group, which included Kim Shin-sook, a Jeju native and director at the Ministry of National Defense, as well as Hong Hye-gul, a medical journalist. Additionally, executives and employees from Tokyo Electron Korea, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and Jeju Energy Corporation participated.
JNU President Kim Eel-hwan emphasized the JNU’s education philosophy, saying, "Education prioritizing physical strength, virtue, and knowledge in that sequence is crucial, rather than the sequence of knowledge, virtue, and physical strength. Only by first fostering a healthy body can we achieve comprehensive personal development. Subsequently, the pursuit of knowledge can be pursued." He also added, ”I hope JNU students will be able to empathize and communicate with others with an open mind."
The JNU Mentor group shared their sentiments about participating in the event, saying, "I felt like I was on a picnic from my childhood. Being surrounded by Jeju's nature, I feel like I can reflect on what's inside me and who I am," and "I'm grateful to JNU for providing such a great program where I can truly appreciate the value of education."
Mentee students expressed their feelings about the event, saying, "It was great to hear the experiences of mentors who work professionally in various fields," adding, "Even if I don't receive any credits in the second semester, I'd like to retake the course."
The final Ollegil class of the spring semester will take place in June on the Ollegil Trail 21 course (Hado-Jongdal-ri Gujwa-eup). Ollegil class can be viewed on JNU’s official YouTube channel; URL_https://youtu.be/Cj2OXDqiZCo.
