Jeju National University Tamla Culture Institute (Chun Young Joon, Director) holds a conference entitled the <”Kumda” refuges, appearance and recognition> in the College of Humanities Hall Jin Yang Hyun Seok Hall from 9:00, June 5. The kumda is a Jeju vernacular meaning “tolerance.”

The Tamla institute has been conducting research revolving around the understanding of Jeju history and refuge Issues in terms of kumda under the program funded by the National Research Foundation since 2019.

Director Chun expects for the conference to generate new knowledge (historical, cultural, and social aspects) about the refuge issues in the history of Jeju Island.

The conference program features Professor Suh Sun Young of Chungbuk National University for a keynote talk and a number of research presentations.

In keeping with the social distancing measures against the recent pandemic, the conference will be live broadcast through the Kumda facebook homepage.
