Prof. Kim Nam Jin and his work on basalt spotlighted

Professor Kim Nam Jin of the Jeju National University Department of Mechanical Energy Chemical Engineering was spotlighted in the special edition of the “Construction Technology News” (dated June 17, 2020) for his achievements in developing fire-resistant construction insulator materials from the basalt waste Sludges.
The work was cited for its significance as having produced the new construction materials from Jeju’s environmentally problematic basalt wastes.
The Ministry of Land and Transportation, Byucksan Corporation, Korea Ceramics Technology Institute, Pohang Industrial Technology Institute, and Korea Construction Life Environment Test Agency provided financial and technical support for Professor Kim’s research.
The newspaper reported that Professor Kim opened a new horizon in recycling the environmental waste into a useful new material, pointing out that the new material is a strongly fire resistant heat insulator. For a full interview with Professor Kim and further information about his work, see the newspaper and the JNU News Korean version, respectively.
