Smart-Farm start-up laboratory opens

Jeju National University Future Expert Agricultural Managers Training Project (Prof. Kim Dong Soon, Director) established a “Smart-Farm Start-Up Incubating Education Laboratory” within the university farm to open on July 1, 2020.
The smart-farm refers to the agricultural system in agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry, processing and distribution intellectualized through information communication technology (ICT).
The JNU practical laboratory was established by “Mi-Jeon Agricultural Education Project” for supporting the agricultural university practical laboratory funded (0.43 billion krw) through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Jeju Autonomous Government in 2019.
The university renovated four existing, run-down vinyl houses for the project purpose; they now completed construction of an ICT-smart vegetable cultivation laboratory (plant factory), mushroom cultivation facility, edible insect farming facility, and smart-farm model mini-greenhouse.
The Mi Jeon Agricultural Education Project plans to use the facilities as “smart farmers” for developing a start-up smart-farm model education system.
Director Kim (College of Life Science and Natural Resource Plant Resource Environment Majors) expects the comprehensive smart-farm laboratory education to be used for education and training of the students and regional farming families.
