Prof. Kim In Joong presents new “Flipped Learning” method

Professor Kim In Joong of the Jeju National University Biomaterials Majors proposed a new teaching method based on intellectual property-centered problem learning (IP-PBL) presented at the 2020 Korean Society of Invention/Teaching method education session held in Vivaldi Park, Hong Cheon, Ganwon Province, last week.
As a SKILL-UP speaker in the IP education method session, Professor Kim introduced the cases of the new teaching method “Flipped-Learning” and its applications. The flipped learning method refers to a reverse teaching procedure in which a student gets a lecture video from his/her teacher and studies the subject in advance at home and then participate in discussion and problem solving session at the school, in contrast to the traditional classroom learning from lectures presented at school.
Professor Kim described his teaching model for the student to learn/research the subject by cultivating problem solving capabilities through interdisciplinary approaches. For this project, Professors Lee Kwang Man (Electronics Engineering Majors), Lee Kwang Jin (Cultural Sculpture Design Majors), Lee Dong Cheol (Management Information Department), Kim Hee Pil (Laboratory Education Majors), Choi Min Joo (Medical Engineering Laboratory), and Kim Beom Yong (Intellectual Properties Education Center) had participated in the teaching method study group.
Director Kim commented that the flipped-learning example presented illustrated an importance of interdisciplinary approaches to cultivating students’ problem solving capabilities.
