Bhoo JH wins research award at Nuclear Society meeting

Predoctoral Fellow Bhoo Ji Hwan of the Jeju National University College of Engineering Energy Chemical Engineering Majors (with Co-author Park Seo Ryung and Corresponding Author Chung Man Hi) won an outstanding research presentation award at the Korea Nuclear Society annual ‘2020 Online Spring Meeting’ earlier this week.

Mr. Bhoo’s paper was entitled “Hand-held dual-particle imager development based on stilbene array coupled with SiPM array.”

The research revolved around visualizing the positions of radiations for portable dual particle imaging devices. The previous devices have been too bulky and heavy for portability.

Unlike the existing single particle radiation detecting devices, the new one developed by the JNU team detects both gamma and neutrino radiations.

The new device developed enabled the scientists to detect both gamma and neutrino radiation particles based on the stilbene scintillator array, while making the device as small as possible for portability.

Bhoo said he was happy to introduce his radiation detection research at a large engineering meeting.
