JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) has received the grand prize at the '2024 Best Practices in Education for Government Innovation' organized by the Korean Ministry of Education for its program 'Local Story Designed by the Young'. This program, known as the Napeulnapeul Academy (Career Employment Education), aims to enhance the job readiness of local youth activists in Jeju.

The program was operated for the purpose of strengthening youth's job competency in Jeju, including helping the young approch local issues and enter their careers as "village activists", which is recognized in the Korean Dictionary of Vocational Affairs in 2023.

JNU provided a step-by-step capacity-building education for entering the community (▲self-understanding-based career exploration education (8 times) ▲ training for local issues and job start-up (7 times) ▲ village resource research education). Furthermore, the program fostered collaboration with six institutions across Jeju to identify and support local youth activists. It also facilitated opportunities for showcasing outstanding performance and gaining practical work experience through collaborative projects.

JNU Career Employment Department/ Job Plus Center, charged in the ‘Napeulnapleul Academy’ has continued to plan various programs and provide career exploration opportunities to the students and the young in Jeju with the support of Youth Policy Officer and the Employment & Wellfare Center in JeJu Special Self-Governing Province.

JNU plans to continuously expand the composition of youth employment governance not only to strengthen the establishment of a network of regional industry-linked institutions but expand program planning.

JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "JNU is hornored to be selected as the leading case for government innovation. Through this opportunity, JNU is committed to continuing its efforts in providing education related to local jobs, strengthen local youth employment capabilities, and provide satisfaction to expand employment opportunities for local residents.“

The 'Best Practices in Government Innovation' competition in the education sector, held annually by the Korean Ministry of Education, aims to identify and promote outstanding innovative cases that directly benefit the public education system.
