Nuclear institute provides food radioactivity testing experience

Jeju National University Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology and Korea Food and Drug Administration jointly conducted an on-site experiencing class for the food radioactivity testing earlier this week.

Twenty members of Jeju YMCA participated in the testing class, representing general consumer public.

The event aimed at providing public awareness and understanding of the Fukushima originated radioactivity disposal and its potential risks involved.

The JNU institute is the only organization capable of publicly monitoring radioactive contaminations in potable water, farm produce and food in Jeju region.

The Jeju radioactivity monitoring center (Professor Chung Man Hee, Director, JNU Energy Engineering Majors) housed within the nuclear science and technology institute continuously surveys the environmental radioactivity in selected Jeju locations reported to the Korea Institute for Nuclear Safety.
