Three science and technology laboratories at JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) have been awarded the “2025 Best Safety Management Laboratory Certification” by the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT. With this certification, JNU has been officially recognized by the Korean government as a university with excellence in laboratory safety management.

JNU was designated as a government-recognized institution for safety management excellence in 2020. In 2023 and 2024, two of its laboratories received the same certification, and in 2025, three laboratories were certified as Best Safety Management Laboratories for the first time.

The three certified laboratories are the Advanced Radioactive Waste Environmental Technology Laboratory (Professor Kang Jae-hyuk), the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Chemistry Laboratory (Professor Ha Min-woo), and the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (Professor Park Min-gyu), all affiliated with the College of Marine Sciences.

To enhance laboratory safety, JNU has established and operates the Jeju National University Laboratory Safety Management System, continuously upgrading its safety management framework. This year, the university also introduced the Safety Management Competency Assessment System for the first time, strengthening autonomous inspections and overall safety management capabilities.
