JNU has been selected to participate in the “K-STAR Visa Track” project organized by the Ministry of Justice, gaining new momentum to attract outstanding foreign master’s and doctoral students and to establish a stable settlement base for global talent.

The “Korea-STAR Advanced Human Resources Visa Track” is a settlement support system that grants exceptional foreign master’s- and doctoral-level talents in science and engineering domestic residence status (F-2) based solely on a recommendation from the university president, regardless of employment status. The program also provides a pathway to permanent residence (F-5) in the future. Originally operated mainly by five science and technology institutes since 2023, the system has now been expanded to include universities participating in the BK21 Graduate School Innovation Support Project.

Through this selection, JNU expects to systematically attract high-quality foreign science and engineering talent, secure a stable graduate student base in these fields, and achieve tangible outcomes such as expanding the settlement of research personnel in Jeju and strengthening industry–academia cooperation rooted in the region.
In particular, the program allows graduates to remain in Korea even without confirmed employment after graduation, significantly improving talent inflow to companies and research institutes in Jeju and enhancing conditions for regional settlement.

Going forward, JNU plans to further advance its global talent attraction and development strategy by linking the K-STAR Visa Track program with the Glocal University 30 Project.
